As you may have seen from the 841 I posted in another thread, the dealing machine had a sense of humour for this match ... except that we hand dealt the boards and there were a lot more oddities than just these two.

I would appear that 5♣ is a lot worse if South doesn't have the 10 of Spades and I'm not sure how you're going to figure that out.

Haven't you heard of the Hasenpfeffer Convention? An opening 4♦ bid specifically asks for the 10♠. This is played by bunnies worldwide!

Opps played 3N by N and didn't get either a heart lead (or switch after a top diamond) or spade through from W that forces you to guess the spades so made in comfort.

I was in 4♥ and failed to get the spades right after a top diamond lead and 3 clubs stood up for -1.
