Regardless of result, look at the bidding of the GIBBO stooge in the North.

After East passes, South opens 1D, and West overcalls 1S, North bids 1NT, defined as "8-11 HCP; likely stop in spades". Fine, no complaint (for ONCE), because he has 9 HCP and jack-fourth of spades.

East bids 2S. South (who HEARD North's 1NT bid!) and West both pass. North chooses to double, basically bidding AGAIN the same values that he has ALREADY shown via his 1NT bid, In fact, he's clearly in the LOWER range of what he has ALREADY shown, since his range was defined as "8-11 HCP" and he has only 9 - just one more than his possible minimum. The GIB definition of his double is, not surprisingly, a pathetic joke, SO pathetic that we'll examine the worthless collection of trash piece by ludicrous piece:

"1+ spade". Oh yeah, that tells us a LOT. "1+", since no upper limit is stated, literally means 1 to 13, which is, wouldn't you say, just a little vague? Moreover, he earlier bid 1NT over West's 1S overcall and his 1NT showed a "likely stop in spades", so, you know, I kind of doubt that he could have ONLY one spade.

"11- HCP". This sloppy, lazy, TYPICAL GIB description, with no lower limit, literally means zero to 11. Golly gee, what happened? Because his EARLIER 1NT bid was defined as showing EIGHT to 11, so when he bid 1NT he needed at LEAST 8 HCP, but NOW...when he's pretty much forcing us to at least TWO no trump or three of a suit, NOW he can do it with ZERO HCP. What happened? Did his hand shrink? Did his HCP vanish? Was he held up at gunpoint and forced to hand over his HCP? How the HELL is it possible that with the SAME hand, he earlier PROMISED at least 8 HCP, but NOW can have fewer...maybe even zero. Utter madness...and utter garbage. In other words, sickeningly TYPICAL GIB trash!

"11+ total points". Oh, really? So he can have ZERO HCP, but he MUST have at LEAST 11 "total" points. Okay, Mr. GIB, if that's the case, then where the HELL are those "total" points coming from, especially considering that NS have not yet identified a fit? Admit it, Mr. GIB. Admit the obvious truth: You haven't got a CLUE about "total" points - what they are, how they're CORRECTLY computed, or anything else. Why don't you do the world a favour and stop exposing your ignorance about "total" points? Just stop including them in the pathetic GIB definitions, because any mention of them in a GIB definition is worthless and useless anyway.

"Likely stop in spades". Yeah. We know. We were already told that when he bid 1NT.

There is NO useful information in this definition, but there IS quite a bit of utter nonsense. Meanwhile, SHOULD North even be doubling here? Well, let's be kind and understanding, keep a VERY open mind, and just say that at the very least it is an "aggressive" decision.

After North's questionable double, East passes and South bids 3D. (We'll soon come back to this.) West bids 3S, and Now NORTH...bids the SAME values...that he has already shown TWICE...a THIRD time. He does this in DIRECT seat, NOT passout position. In other words, he didn't HAVE to bid, because if he passed, his partner South would have been able to bid and compete if he thought it was right, so on top of everything else, North is INSULTING his partner South by basically saying that only HE (North) knows what to do.

North bids FOUR diamonds, contracting for TEN tricks. He does this RED AGAINST WHITE...with NO extra values or shape or fit beyond what he has already shown TWICE previously. He does this opposite a partner, South, who after opening 1D, subsequently PASSED North's 1NT bid. You know, I kind of think South doesn't have extras either! South's ONLY call after opening was 3D, a call he was basically FORCED to make when North doubled 2S. And what did South's FORCED 3D bid show? Well, according to the GIB definition (See, I TOLD you we'd "soon come back to this"!), it showed "4+ diamonds; 11+ HCP: 12 total points" (Lord knows why, as usual, regarding the "total" points!). So North, bidding his SAME values for a THIRD time, at the FOUR level, bids FOUR DIAMONDS opposite partner South, who could have ONLY four diamonds and ONLY 11 HCP. And what is the HUGE hand and MAMMOTH diamond support that North has for this courageous journey into the Land of Ten Required Tricks? He has a PANCAKE FLAT 4-3-3-3 hand where the FOUR cards are in the ENEMY suit, spades. He has a mere THREE diamonds opposite a partner, South, who could have as few as four. He has a mere 9 HCP, having initially shown a possible ELEVEN, and those mere 9 are opposite partner South, who might have only 11 himself. The GIB definition of 4D says it PROMISES "4+ diamonds", which literally means 4 to 13. Forget 13. Forget the plus. He DOESN'T have "four PLUS diamonds". He doesn't even have FOUR diamonds. He has three - one fewer than the MINIMUM he is promising.

The sooner these GIBBO pieces of garbage are forever buried in a landfill, the sooner the BBO members and customers will be able to enjoy a DECENT game of bridge free from the unrelenting nonsense of the current clownish, pitiful robots.

Decent result of 71.4 % on the board, but I fail to see any wisdom in North's 2D bid and am not impressed by his 3NT call.

West doubles 2S for no discernible reason. West gets to add ANOTHER zero to the massive collection he has in various warehouses across five continents.
