Pass would be for penalties!

This auction looks familiar, I might have seen it already a few minutes ago.

Anyway, your only options are obviously 3 and 3. I guess some people might go for 3, hope not to get doubled and run to 3 if they do. I don't really think that's going to help though so I'll just bid 3 right away.

Do I really have to do something? Partner with 5-(4-3)-1 might have a better idea which is her 4-card suit than I do, and I can't really have a penalty pass of 3CXX.

If she has a very strong 5-3-3-2 (not likely), maybe their attempt to punish us will backfire. I have a spade to lead.

Yes, you have to do something. Pass does not mean choose a red suit. 3 for me.

Pass could be horrible but has something going for it. If an undisciplined parter removes, he is likely to choose the better red suit.. If partner sits but has, for example, A x x x x A x x x A x x x - (or better) then we could survive.

Aguahombre, yep as it turns out I know what our agreements are. Even if you think I am lying, it is common courtesy to accept the agreements in the opening post as the truth when you reply.

Your refusal to accept the conditions is kind of like someone posting 'I pass for penalties because I think gwnn forgot that this hand actually had AQJT of clubs.'

Oh, I believe that is your agreement. I just haven't incurred enough psyches by the opponents on this auction to have the same agreement. My pard, in this case will choose a suit, even though passing a redouble in other cases is penalty ---including the most basic one "everyone" thinks is not: (1x) dbl (rdbl) P.

Yes but you are not playing with your pard, you are playing in a hypothetical world where you agreed that pass is for penalties, what is so hard to understand? Next time anyone posts a problem with a weak NT will you also post that 'this 8-count is a clear invite, partner will accept whenever she has 17'?

edit: and sorry for editing the previous post after you replied, didn't see your reply

That is our problem. Somehow I missed in the OP that pass would be for penalties; and I hate it when others do that to my OP's.

Just consider that I shouldn't have contributed to this thread at all, since it contains a condition which is not ours --- and we have discussed when penalty is possible in depth....bid and raised redoubles is not one of them, so take notes and you can win a board with a psyche, here.

I think you are wrong here aguahombre, appart from the fact that I've seen bid and raise to the 3 level with total 6 trumps in the past, even for serious opponents there is nothing on a bidding like this that forbids partner to have QJ108x in trumps. Plus your methods are highly vulnerable to psyche redoubles.

It could be a very interesting bloodbath in 3cXX if I am wrong about how partner will construe the pass. We are at white vs. red, here, and partner certainly has a better hand than three bare bullets and shape (which could be enough).

Bro, don't feel bad, you are not the only one who skipped Csaba wrote his agreements with his pd, so i upvoted you. Seeing that he actually has stated it clearly, i appologize from him. He is a cool dude i am sure he will accept. I will not tell you what you shd do, but if i were you i would just say i am sorry because i missed that agreement, and we all would be already focusing on the problem he gave us by now.

You can always send money if you want to make sure gwnn forgives you.

In unrelated news, what would you bid? I don't think pass is best with xxxx of clubs (7542 if I recall correctly) but maybe with something like KTxx it's already the best option? And which red suit to bid (first)?
